Life Principle: Treat others with respect and be considerate of them and they will be much more likely to treat you with respect and be considerate.
You should be considerate of others simply because it’s the right thing to do.
A week ago I returned a vacuum cleaner to Best Buy that I had a warranty on and the customer service person was thrilled beyond measure that I put labels on the vacuum cleaner with all of the warranty information. It’s a bit of an OCD thing for me but I also used to work retail and so I know how much work goes into researching that info. This just naturally made the return so much easier for them.
So today I return two more items I had warranties for and when I approached customer service she was so thrilled to see me, proclaiming “You’re the vacuum guy! We were so excited that you gave us all of the info for your warranty. Thank you so much.” As a result, instead of following the book and just exchanging the items for new ones she called a manager over and gave me store credit/gift cards for both items.
You should be considerate of others simply because it’s the right thing to do. The natural consequence though is that the person in return is more likely to be considerate towards you.
An awesome experience yet again at Best Buy
